Huskies fall to Cascade despite productive day at plate

On Wednesday, the Huskies lost 9-4 at Cascade, despite outhitting the Cougars 13 to 9.

Maddie Harris pitched for Sweet Home, going five and two thirds innings and allowing nine runs on eight hits. Mikayla Guthrie threw one third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Cascade got on the board first with one run in the bottom of the third.

Sweet Home then answered right back with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.

Kelsie Rush singled down the third base line to score Mykal Johnston.

Brooke Burke drew a walk to score Kaylea Layman, and then Bailee Hartsook hit a line drive single to bring in Sweet Home’s third run.

But Cascade wasted no time in reclaiming the lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 4-3.

That score would hold until the sixth inning, when Rush scored on an error by Cascade’s second baseman.

But Cascade pulled away for good when it was their turn to bat in the sixth, scoring five runs to secure a 9-4 victory.

Hartsook led Sweet Home in hits, going 3-4. The Huskies didn’t commit any errors defensively.

Hartsook had an even bigger day at the plate at Woodburn, with five RBIs on three hits to help her team earn a 16-1 victory.

Sweet Home jumped out to a 7-1 lead after two innings. Their biggest offensive inning came in the sixth, when they scored six runs on their way to the 16-1 victory.

Guthrie was on the mound for the Huskies, pitching six innings and allowing only one run on two hits, while striking out four.

The Huskies got 18 hits in the game. Harris stole six bases, and went 4-5 at the plate.

On Monday, Sweet Home lost 6-1 to Philomath at home.
