Sweet Home’s girls Intermediate Medley relay team were the only winners at the Philomath Relays Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Philomath.
But Coach Doug Peargin said the Huskies are doing “well” despite their biggest problem: a lack of numbers, especially on the boys side.
“Philomath Relays is a great meet to get your entire team involved,” he said, noting that because no team score is kept, “it’s one of the most fun meets of the season because every event is a relay. It allows a coach to experiment a little bit and swim some kids in an event or two that they may have never competed in before.”
The Huskies posted 16 personal bests in their third meet of the season, which, Peargin said, was a good indication.
“I feel we’re swimming pretty well,” he said. “However, we have a lot of fundamentals to focus on. The kids are starting to get into shape.”
The Huskies’ will host the Sweet Home Invitational at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20. The event will stat earlier than usual due to possible weather concerns, he said.
