Huskies improve against Stayton in girls soccer

The Huskies made a significantly better showing against Stayton last week in girls soccer while on their way to a 4-1 loss at home.

The last time the two teams played each other, the Huskies lost 8-0.

The Huskies held off Stayton for 30 minutes, said Coach Ramiro Santana, “until we had a penalty kick.”

Stayton scored the first goal of the game and managed to score two quick goals before halftime.

“The whole second half, we played good,” Santana said. “It’s probably one fo the best games we have played in this year. They didn’t beat us at all when it comes to playing the ball.”

Stayton’s speed carried the Eagles past the Huskies, he said.

Sweet Home held off Stayton again through most of the half, giving up a goal at the end of the game. Mo Curtis fired off a penalty kick to end the game to score for Sweet Home after an opponent followed the Huskies into the goal.

The Huskies were scheduled to host Cascade in their final home game of the season on Tuesday.

“If everybody plays the way we played last week, it’s going to be a different story,” Santana said.

They travel to Sisters Thursday and then to Newport on Oct. 29.

“These teams are good,” Santana said. The Huskies are playing better, he said, but so is everyone else. “There’s nobody easy.”
