Huskies lose two in baseball

Taft 6, Sweet Home 5

Taft edged out Sweet Home 6-5 in the first game of a doubleheader in Lincoln City on May 6.

“We got an early lead and couldn’t do much offensively the rest of the way,” Coach Dan Tow said. “They managed a run here and a run there and tied it up (in the sixth inning) and then won it with a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh.

“We really didn’t play that poorly, but it was a game I thought we should’ve won.”

At bat, Tyler Holly went 2-3 with an RBI. Greg Sipe went 2-4.

J.P. Williams pitched for Sweet Home. McNelly pitched for Taft.

The Tigers put away seven runs in the opening inning of the second game to build an insurmountable lead and win the game.

“We had a terrible inning defensively in the first,” Tow said. “After coming right out and taking a three-run lead, we gave up seven runs.”

Shelby Johnston started for the Huskies, Tow said. “Greg (Sipe) came in and pitched very well, I thought, but we dug too big of a hole early and could never climb out.”

Willoughby started for Taft, and Sawyer relieved him and received credit for the win.

At bat, Sipe went 3-3. Dustin Horn went 2-3. Tyler Horner went 2-4.

Hamlin went 3-3 for Taft.
