Sweet Home showed now mercy to the visiting Central Panthers Thursday, as Coach Steve Thorpe’s Husky grapplers rolled to a 72-0 win over their Capital Conference opponents.
Central failed to present much of an attack, bring a sparse JV squad and forfeiting several varsity weights in the lopsided bout.
“This is the third year in a row that we’ve blanked them,” Coach Thorpe said. “They’re pretty solid from 112-135 but couldn’t keep up with out guys’ conditioning overall.”
Coach Thorpe said he was very pleased with Chad Emmert, 112; K.C. Stokes, 125; Eric Lambert at 152.
“Eric has really picked up the pace for us,” Coach Thorpe said.
103 pound Andrew Swanson scored the fastest pin of the night, a 22 second win over Roman Garcia. Other pins came from Stokes at 125 over David Rardin in 1:03; Adam Zurcher at 130 in 2:54 over Lucas Garcia, Israel Helfrich at 140 in 52 seconds over David Hawks, Eric Lambert at 152 in 1:39 over Tyler Chaney, Matt Vassar at 189 in 3:37 over Steve Cook and Andy Ellis, heavyweight in 55 seconds over Matt Neiffer.
Friday the Huskies traveled to the McKay Tournament and brought home a championship.
“It was good for us to wrestle two days in a row,” Coach Thorpe said.
Three Huskies found themselves in overtimes, battling for wins. They were Neil Workman, 119; Trevor Burchard at 171 and Daniel Brewer at 215.
“Daniel scored an overtime fall which picked up some additional team points for us,” Coach Thorpe said.
The Huskies travel to Cascade Thursday to meet what will probably be their toughest league matchup of the season.
“We beat Cascade at the Oregon Classic but that doesn’t mean anything,” Coach Thorpe said. “They’ll be a different team. They’re tough.”
Saturday the Huskies will compete at the always-tough South Albany tournament.
“We’ll wrestle Canby and Redmond. It will be tough. It always is,” Coach Thorpe said.
Coach Thorpe said his big men are “starting to shine. We’re working very well. We’re where we want to be this time of year.”
