In their most competitive home meet of the season Friday, Jan. 24, Sweet Home’s swimmers responded with a slew of personal bests – 23 of them from 13 individual swimmers.
Hosting Marist, Philomath and Salem Academy, the girls finished first – with nearly double the points of second-place Marist, while the boys finished fourth.
“We swam well again,” Head Coach Doug Peargin said.
He said the Huskies are working to zero in on which events would be the best fit for their swimmers as they approach the district meet on Feb. 14-15.
PRs came from Hailey Armendariz (200 and 500 Freestyles), Megan Baham (50/100 Frees), Hunter Calderwood (200 IM/100 Butterfly), Alaina Curtis (50/100 Frees), Vince Drake (50/100 frees), Iris Erickson (50/100 Frees), Bill Hawken (100 Free), Malia Hewitt (100 Free), Jacob Kennedy (50 Free, 100 Backstroke), Chase Lopez (50 Free), Valerie Richards (50/100 frees), Isabel Sayer (200 IM, 500 Free), Jamie Seward (100 Free) and Micah Wright (500 Free). Peargin highlighted the performances of Calderwood and Sayer as “the best performances of the meet, but with over 20 PR’s as a team, I’d have to say we swam pretty well.
Up next for the Huskies is the Newport Invitational, hosted by a school that has shot to the top of the state’s 4A swimming program. The meet will actually be held at Lebanon, at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31.
“We will get to see a couple of the coast teams and Valley Catholic for the first time this year,” Peargin said. “It should be a good one.”
