Sweet Home’s wrestlers finished their home schedule Thursday, Feb. 6, with a 66-3 win over Philomath, as the Huskies said goodbye to 11 seniors, for whom this was their final match under the Husky spotlight.

Leaving their wrestling shoes on the edge of the mat, a longstanding tradition at Sweet Home after seniors’ final home matches, were Emmaline Durrett, Amelia Sullens and Samantha Villa for the girls, and Jackson Barringer, Colton Bennett, Killan Boggs, Russell Dickerman, Bode Hart, Jacob Landtroop, Dylan Sharp and Ashton Swanson.

Sweet Home Coach Steve Thorpe credited Philomath, which had “sickness, injury and they were missing kids” for making Senior Night work for Sweet Home.

“Their coach, Troy Woosley, is just a class act,” Thorpe said. “He made sure weights were filled, and although we didn’t have a whole bunch of matches, we still had a great night and we got to send our seniors off.

“It’s the last time they ever get to wrestle here.”

Senior night also included posters that seniors signed for their fans and some elaborate photo displays for each wrestler.

Sweet Home won all but one match they wrestled.

Up next for the Huskies is the girls 1A-4A District Championship Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15, at Cottage Grove. Wrestling starts at 2 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday. The top four finishers in each weight will qualify for the state meet Feb. 27-28.

The boys regional championship tournament will be Saturday, Feb. 22, at Philomath.
