Sweet Home 6, Taft 3
The Huskies came from behind Thursday on the diamond to tie a contest with Taft and then win it 6-3 in an extra inning at home.
“This was a good win on a nasty day,” Coach Dan Tow said.
Much of the game was played in the rain with occasional showers.
Taft scored a run in the second inning, another in the fifth and again in the sixth to build a 3-1 lead. The Huskies scored two runs in the sixth to tie the game, but both teams went scoreless in the seventh forcing the game into an extra inning. The Huskies scored three runs in the eighth to get the win.
“We had to come back from being down 3-1 and pull out a tough win,” Tow said. “We didn’t hit the ball real well, but we figured out a way to score a few runs, and then J.P. (Williams) came through in the eighth with a big walk-off three-run homerun.”
Williams went 3-4 on the game. Tyler Horner collected the remaining Husky hits, going 2-4 with one RBI.
“J.P. battled well on the mound the entire game,” Tow said. “He only gave up three hits, and our defense played pretty well behind him.’
Ryan Willoughby was the losing pitcher.
