Sweet Home 2, Junction City 3
The Husky baseball team split a doubleheader, winning 13-10 and losing 3-2, at Junction City on Saturday.
“Both teams hit the tar out of the ball in this game,” Coach Dan Tow said of game one. “Our defense was a little better than theirs, and we pulled out the win.
“We had a lot of guys hit the ball hard. It was nice to see our bats come to life a little bit today.
“I thought Robby (Wallace) battled well on the mound and gave us a good effort after a shaky start in the fourth.”
Starting pitcher Kyle Pettit received credit for the win, and Wallace was credited with the save pitching in relief. Chris Worley was the losing pitcher.
At bats, Skyler Bascom went 2-3 with a double and two RBIs. Adam Hummer went 2-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Greg Sipe went 2-4. Tyler Horner hit a single and a triple with one RBI. Wallace went 1-2 with a double and two RBIs.
In the second game, “we got some hits in this one, but just couldn’t string them together,” Tow said. “Greg (Sipe) certainly threw a good game and deserved a win. We just couldn’t muster more than two runs.
“We didn’t hit that poorly, but a lot of them were right to their guys, and they made the plays.”
McLintock was winning pitcher. For the Huskies, Sipe struck out six batters and walked two.
At bats, Chaz Davis went 2-4. Wallace went 2-2 with one RBI. Brad Valloni went 1-3 with an RBI.

Estacada 4, Sweet Home 3
Despite a strong day on the Husky mound, Estacada edged out the Huskies in a 4-3 win at Sweet Home on Friday.
“We just couldn’t get much going offensively other than Skyler (Bascom),” Tow said. “We just didn’t hit the ball too well.
“When your pitchers strike out 11 and only walk two, you should win; but they were sharp defensively, and we just didn’t hit.”
Starting pitcher Hummer struck out nine batters and walked two. Pettit struck out two and walked none pitching in relief.
Harding was the winning pitcher. Lenor pitched in relief.
At bats, Bascom went 2-3 with two home runs and three RBIs. Wallace, Pettit and Valloni each had singles.
