Regis 4, Sweet Home 1
The Huskies summer baseball team lost a pitchers duel to Regis 4-1 on July 6 in Stayton.
The Huskies scored their only run in the third inning to take the lead. Regis brought in four runs in the fifth to take the win.
“This was pretty much a pitchers’ duel,” Coach Dan Tow said. “We had a couple of mistakes in the fifth and allowed them to have a big inning. They did a good job of limiting our opportunities.”
Adam Hummer was starting pitcher. Kyle Pettit pitched in relief and received the loss.
At bat, Adam Matuszak, Greg Sipe and Hummer each had singles.
“Adam Hummer did a very nice job on the mound,” Tow said. “He threw four innings of shutout baseball, giving up only one hit.”

Sweet Home 11, Blanchett 0
Sweet Home defeated Blanchett 11-0 in the sixth inning under the 10-run rule in Sweet Home on July 5.
“Blanchett has a very young, inexperienced team,” Tow said. “Tonight was a good night to get playing time for everyone at numerous positions. I thought Ray (Lingenfelter), Brian (Palkki) and Brad (Valloni) all did a nice job on the mound. It was good to give these guys some innings in a game situation.”
Lingenfelter started for the Huskies and collected the win. Palkki and Valloni pitched in relief.
At bat, Pettit had two doubles and two RBIs. Palkki had a double with three RBIs.

Sweet Home 9, Salem Academy 8
The Huskies defeated Salem Academy 9-8 in a monster 10-inning game in Salem on July 3.
“We took an early lead thanks to some good hitting and a few mistakes by our opponent,” Tow said. “However, we didn’t hit as well as we’d like throughout the game, and they climbed back in it.”
The Huskies scored seven runs in the first two innings, but Salem Academy scored five in the fourth through sixth. In the seventh inning, the Huskies added one run, but Salem Academy added three to tie the game. The two teams went scoreless until the 10th inning.
“We manufactured a run by Adam Matuszak to win it in the 10th inning,” Tow said. “Adam got on by drawing a walk. Greg Sipe bunted him to second and we scored him on an error.
“Adam Matuszak had a very good game at shortstop, making numerous good plays.”
“We really should have won this one early, but playing an extra-inning game with a little pressure was probably good for us.”
Pettit started on the mound. Hummer pitched in relief and received the win.
At bat, Pettit and Sipe each had two hits to lead the Huskies.
