The Huskiettes dance team finished third at a four-team meet at Thurston High School on Saturday.
“We scored high enough to qualify for state,” said Coach Kristin Ashcraft.
The team usually pre-qualifies for state, but doing it at the first meet is unusual, she said. The Huskiettes scored higher, she believes, than any competition last year, she said.
The meet was divided by team size, so the Huskiettes competed against two 5A teams and one 3A team, she said.
“They looked awesome,” Ashcraft said. “I was so proud of them.”
The routine has numerous lifts and partners working together, she said. “The crowd loved it. We got so many compliments from other coaches and the crowd.”
Marshfield placed first. Santiam placed second.
