Huskiettes tops at Sprague

The Huskiettes took first place Saturday in their three-team division at Sprague in their last regular competition of the season.

“We placed first out of three teams and we scored our highest score yet,” Coach Kristin Ashcraft said.

Unlike a normal competition, in which the team is judge in two rounds before an audience, the Sprague competition, sponsored by the Judges Association, requires teams to perform their first round with only the judges, who then give a 20-minute critique session before the team performs the second round in front of an audience.

“We are very pleased with our performance,” Ashcraft said. “It feels great to finish our regular season on a high note. We have two weeks to polish and perfect our routine for the state championships.”

State will be held March 18-19 at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

The Huskiettes will perform their Home Exhibition at 7 p.m. Monday, March 14, at the Sweet Home High School Main Gym. They will perform their state routine and the seniors will perform their All-State routine. The Sweet Home Junior High Dance Team will also perform its competition routine and Huskiette alumni dancers and groups from other studios will perform as well.
