Marist 3
The Husky baseball team defeated Marist 7-3 on Thursday at Marist.
“Our kids really did a nice job today,” Coach Dan Tow said. “Marist has a quality ball club, and we competed well.
“Brent Smith battled on the mound and gave us five quality innings in his first start of the year. He got some big outs when we needed them. Bryce Beard was excellent in relief, striking out the next four and walk none.”
Smith struck out four and walked five. Gedier pitched for Marist.
“We held a one-run lead (4-3) in the seventh when we broke it open with a solo homerun by Travis Smith and a two-run homerun by Carey Hintze,” Coach Tow said. “Our kids showed a lot of heart, and they made big defensive plays when they needed them. This was a good win for us.”
At bats, Hintze went 2-3 with three RBIs. T. Smith went 2-3. Lance Carter went 1-2 and scored two runs. Donny Cliver, Brandon Martin and Beard all had singles.
For Marist, Burns went 2-2 and Pat Cooley had a double to lead Marist batters.

Jefferson 3
Out of daylight, eight innings into a game, the Huskies ended their contest with Jefferson tied 3-3.
“We did a number of things well today,” Coach Tow said. “Donny Cliver had a very good outing on the mound, and our defense played pretty well.
“We did have some opportunities to score runs that we didn’t take advantage of, and we need to improve on that.
“We had a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but we gave up a couple walks and hit two batters. That allowed them to tie it up. We played the eighth, and then it was called due to darkness.
“We did some good things today, and it was just good to get on a field and play a game.”
On the mound, Cliver pitched eight strikeouts with one walk. Cody Miller pitched in relief.
Daniel Reedy pitched for Jefferson with Joey Trefethen and Chad Shepard pitching in relief.
At bats, Hintze went 3-5 with a double and one RBI. B. Smith went 1-2 with a double. Joe Rosa went 1-2 with an RBI. Beard and Joe Kisselburgh had singles.
