Sweet Home took advantage of every opportunity on offense to bring in runs on relatively few hits to beat the Phoenix Pirates 8-3 in baseball at home on Friday.
“Probably, the biggest thing that stands out, our pitchers are throwing really well,” said Coach Dan Tow.
Cole Ashcraft started the game, pitched three innings and recorded the win. He gave up four hits and two earned runs, while striking out five Pirates. He gave up no walks.
Kevin Seiber pitched the final four innings, giving up two hits, two walks and one earned run. He struck out one batter.
The Huskies collected five hits on the game and used those combined with four walks to score eight times.
At bat, Justin Tow went 203 with a double and an RBI, while scoring three runs.
Brett Blachly doubled and recorded to RBIs. He walked once and scored a run. Seiber followed up with a big hit to score runs. He had three RBIs.
Joe Salsberry walked twice and scored two runs. Colyn Van Eck hit a double. Hunter Jutte walked once and and scored two runs.
“They walked us quite a bit,” Tow said, and batters sacrificed themselves a couple of times to move runners. “We really probably hit better than it looked in the box score.”
The Huskies did a nice job defensively and got a win against a good team, he said.
Sweet Home was scheduled to open league at Junction City on Monday, but the game was rained out.
The Huskies are scheduled to travel to Elmira on Wednesday.
