Husky baseball team notches 27 hits in doubleheader split

Sweet Home 14, 8

Stayton 3, 14

The summer Husky baseball team split a doubleheader with Stayton on June 24 at home.

In the first game, “we really pounded the ball in this game,” Coach Dan Tow said. “Travis Smith had a big game with five RBIs. Brett Miller and Joe Rosa each drove in three runs, and we had a lot of people really hit well.

“On the defensive side, Tyler Emmert and Cody Miller combined to throw a one-hitter, so I was obviously pleased with our pitching as well.

“Cody has given us some real quality outings. In this game, he had three strikeouts and only walked one, which is a real key to successful pitching.

“We just got a lot of production from a lot of different people in this one.”

At bats, Smith went 3-3 with a double, a triple and five RBIs. Rosa went 3-4 with three RBIs. Miller went 3-4 with three RBIs. Anthony Mink went 2-2 with a triple. Emmert went 2-3 with three runs. Tomas Rosa hit a double.

“We hit the ball well again in game two, but so did Stayton,” Coach Tow said. “Joe Rosa and Travis Smith combined for 13 hits in the doubleheader, which is really incredible. Unfortunately, our pitching staff struggled in this game, and we had some defensive mistakes as well.

“We lost the game, but I’m very pleased with the way a lot of our kids have been swinging the bats. We had 27 hits today, and that’s great offense. That’s one of our main focus points in the summer, and our kids have done a pretty good job of hitting the baseball.

“We’ve won four out of our last five, and we’ve really gotten good pitching in each of the wins.”

At bats, J. Rosa went 4-5 with a double, triple and three RBIs. Smith went 3-5 with a triple. Emmert went 2-5 with two RBIs. T. Rosa went 2-4 with two singles. Stayton had 14 hits.
