Husky equestrians place in top third in early events

The Sweet Home High School equestrian team has competed in two meets so far this season.

The team includes four girls, said Adviser Marsha Blankenship. “We have a pretty new group of girls except Jessica (Blankenship).”

They are three-year member Jessica Blankenship, junior; first-year member Morgan Jefferson, junior; Brittani Crompton, freshman; and Miklin Daggett, a freshman homeschooler from Brownsville.

Marsha Blankenship is serving as adviser. Coaching are Laurie Wyant and Larissa Bjornsen, who was a member of the team all four years she was in high school.

At a meet from Feb. 26 to Feb. 28, all four girls competed in Canadian flags, finishing seventh of 23 teams. Blankenship and Crompton placed eighth among 33 teams in working pairs and 23rd of 55 in Birangle.

In individual poles, Blankenship placed 14th; Jefferson, 24th; Crompton, 35th; and Daggett, 41st, among 69 competitors.

In keyhole, Crompton finished ninth; Blankenship, 26th; and Daggett, 28th, among 67 participants.

At a meet from March 26 to March 28, Crompton and Blankenship finished seventh in working pairs. They finished 21st of 53 in working pairs, while Jefferson and Daggett finished 35th.

Blankenship finished 20th out of 73 in barrels. Crompton finished 26th.

Blankenship finished 13th of 78 in figure eight. Crompton finished 25th, and Jefferson finished 59th.

Blankenship was 12th of 60 in poles. Jefferson was 32nd; Daggett, 37th; and Crompton 49th.

The team’s last meet will be April 23 to April 25.
