Sweet Home’s freshman football team got off to a roaring start this year, putting together five straight wins before finishing the season at 6-2.
The Huskies lost 28-26 to La Pine and 42-0 to Central at home, the latter in a game riddled by turnovers and injuries. But in their final game, at Philomath, they came from behind in the two and a half minutes in their final game, at Philomath, to win 14-12.
Sweet Home blocked a punt, then scored and added a two-point conversion for the win.
“This was a group effort,” said coach Dustin Nichol. “We had nine different people who scored for us on touchdowns or two-point conversions.
“The season was a complete team effort. No one person was totally an all-star.
“We had different people step up and make plays for us at various times when we needed them.”
