For The New Era
Sweet Home’s girls soccer program endured another rough week, as the Huskies were blown out in both of their Week 2 contests.
Sweet Home lost 10-2 at 3A Division Western Christian of Salem, then in their home opener, lost 7-1 to guests Cottage Grove.
In both contests, Sweet Home wasn’t competitive enough in the first half, then was unable to turn things on for the remainder of the game.
At Western Christian, team captains Anabelle Morris and Khloe Sautel scored. Morris racked up another goal against Cottage Grove, assisted by Sautel.
Despite the underwhelming results, Head Coach Ramiro Santana remains optimistic, seeing improvement .
“We’ve had a better attitude, especially with not giving up,” he said. “Our passing is getting better.”
Santana highlighted where the Huskies need to improve: “We need to improve our communication on the field for better passing and shooting goals. We need to execute like we do in practice.
“We need to want the ball more,” he added. “We can’t ever give up. We need to be aggressive in every play. Every play we look like we’re coming, but slowly. I hope we improve on that in our next game.”
The Green and Gold will look to get back on track in their second home matchup at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, against 2A Division Gervais/Kennedy.
The Huskies will have a good opportunity to secure their first victory in over two years, considering the Trojans’ 0-5 record, and that they’ve been outscored 1-23 this year.
