Estacada 2, Sweet Home 1
The Husky girls soccer team is playing tough and just out of reach of a win, but the Huskies just couldn’t buy a goal against Estacada at home on Tuesday.
They lost 2-1.
Sweet Home built a 1-0 lead in the first half, but defense broke down a little in the second, Coach Ramiro Santana said, and the Rangers were able to put in two goals.
The Huskies scored about 20 minutes into the game when Jessica Snow took an assist across the field from the sideline.
“She met the ball halfway and took a shot,” Santana said. “It was a beautiful goal.”
Megan Rubidoux had a couple of nice shots that bounced off the post, Santana said.
Brianna Wirth took another good shot, Santana said. It bounced off the goal post, and she tried to knock the ball in with her head. Unfortunately, the ball bounced up and over the post.
“She was right in front of the goal,” he said. “We could’ve scored it. We pretty much dominated the game.”
The Huskies held their opponents and pressured them, especially throughout the first half, Santana said. “We are looking good. It’s just trying to get over the hump.”
Santana said Estacada’s coach was looking for a big score but was impressed by the Huskies’ resistance.
The Huskies gave the goals up in the second half after switching ends of the field, Santana said. It tends to happen when defense is opposite Santana’s end of the field. The defense tightens up and isn’t as offensive.
“I’m happy that we played good,” he said. “I’m not happy we lost, but we’re getting control.
“I think we’re just getting better. I hope things turn out for the good now.”
The Huskies were scheduled to play at North Marion on Tuesday this week and at Lebanon Thursday.
