Husky girls finish rookie season of golf with two-day district

Sweet Home’s girls didn’t place at the 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 2 golf championship held May 8-9 at the McNary Golf Club.

But Huskies Abby Logan and Hanna James, both rookies to competitive golf, not only completed their first 18-hole rounds of the season, but both improved dramatically in doing so.

Hogan shot 143-127-270 over the 36-hole event and James finished with 153-146-299. Both are juniors who took up the game this year.

Only six of the 12 schools represented at the event had the four players necessary to score as a team. La Pine finished as district champion with a two-day total of 384-374-758. Second was Harrisburg (450-478-928), followed by Stayton (481-465-946), Newport (543-508-1051), Salem Academy (460-549-1009) and Taft (526-613-1139).

The top three teams qualify for state, as do any individuals who finish in the top five.

Individual district champion as Maddie Dustin of Cascade, the Cougars’ only player, who shot 74-73-147. La Pine showed why it won the title, taking three of the next four places: Kylee Smith in second (84-81-165), Hailey Smith in third (89-93-182), Alex Willcoxen of Salem Academy in fourth (96-91-187) and Jaida Crowley of LaPine in fifth (105-92-197).
