Sweet Home 42, Taft 38
The Huskies won their first game of the season in girls basketball 42-38 against Taft Friday at the Gladstone Christmas Tournament.
“We played an outstanding second half,” said Coach Robbie Robinson.
The Huskies finished the first quarter ahead 11-7 but were trailing 16-14 at halftime. They outscored Taft 13-11 and 15-11 in the last two quarters to get the win.
“We were just struggling a little bit in the second quarter,” Robinson said. When the team gets discouraged, it tends to slow things down.
They came back out from halftime recharged, with a lot more energy.
They had a lot more assists and moved the ball much more efficiently, Robinson said. They pressured the ball better and stole the ball more.
“Jasmin Yoder did a fantastic job in the back end of our press,” Robinson said. She scored five points but had seven steals.
Leading the Huskies at the hoop were Sabrina Davis with 13 and Megan Rubidoux with 12.

Gladstone 78, Sweet Home 28
The Huskies lost 78-28 to Gladstone in the tournament championship on Saturday.
“I know the score doesn’t indicate it, but we actually played our best quarter this year,” Robinson said. Gladstone is a way better team, but the Huskies were tied with Gladstone 13-13 after a quarter by playing good, smart basketball.
Gladstone got away from them after that, and Gladstone led 39-17 at halftime and 65-23 after three.

They missed about nine free throws in the first quarter that would have made a huge difference on the game, Robinson said. “Our work’s cut out for us. Nobody said it was going to be easy.”
