Sweet Home’s boys golf team shot its lowest team total of the season April 27 at Oak Knoll Golf Course in Independence,
finishing with a 367 as all five Huskies shot under 100 for the first time this season.
Jake Riggs led the way for Sweet Home, shooting an 85, which time him for second with two other golfers behind Tom Graves of Newport, who finished with 82 to win individual medalist honors. Newport finished with 359 points to win the tournament. Host Central was third (374), followed by Taft (391).
Cody Daniels shot a 92 to place second among the Sweet Home players, followed by Paul Kim and Mike Fontenot with 95’s and Jason Rice (98).
“That was our best score of the year,” Coach Tom Horn said.
With the district match a week away, on March 10-11 at Trysting Tree in Corvallis, he said the Huskies have been too inconsistent to allow him to settle on a line-up.
“We have eight guys playing for five spots,” Horn said. “I don’t know what the district line-up will be other than that Jake will be in the line-up. ”
The league is “really balanced” so anyone can win, Horn said.
“It depends on who plays well on that day.”
Sweet Home’s girls did not play last week.
