Husky golfers third in official team opener

In their first official team match of the season, Sweet Home’s boys finished third at Salishan in Newport Monday, March 28.

The Huskies finished with a 400, behind Cascade (343) and Woodburn (386). Stayton, Newport and Cottage Grove also had players in the event, but not the four each required to score as teams.

Cascade’s Ramsey Gordan led the field with a 76, with Ty Beyer of Woodburn second with a 79. Beyer’s older brother Cole, now playing at Colorado Mesa University, was the Oregon 4A state champion last year.

Senior Morgan Sands led the Huskies with a 91, followed by senior Carson Perry (94), senior Ryan Tyndal (106), senior Joseph Hiemenz (109) and sophomore Chet Garrett (122).

In a nine-hole JV match, sophomore Jacob Silver finished with a 60, two strokes ahead of freshman Easton Perry (62).

“They’re improving,” Coach Ron Moore said. “I was hoping we’d be a little farther along than we are right now.

“We had a good week of practice last week and I’m hoping we’ll have a good week of practice this week before we host our invitational on Friday.

The event, at Mallard Creek, will include both boys and girls. It starts at 11 a.m.
