Sweet Home’s cross-country runners posted a plethora of personal bests at the Harrier Classic Saturday, Oct. 7, at Bryant Park in Albany.
The 45-team meet included schools from nearly all the OSAA divisions.
Twelve of Sweet Home’s 17 runners on the boys and girls sides posted PRs on the flat, fast course.
Junior Tanner Sayers was not one of them, but he led the boys varsity with a 12th-place finish in the field of 229 runners.
Noah Taraski was second for the Huskies, finishing 149th in 18:52.80, his first finish under 19 minutes at 5000 meters.
Noah Dinsfriend was third for Sweet Home, 163rd overall in 19:07.10, a season’s best.
Ricky Yunke was right behind, in 164th, running 19:07.20, followed by Zach Zanona in a personal-best 19:15.10, Tristan Saultz, also with a PR in 19:25.10 and Cameron Taber, finishing in 19:30.70, also his best ever.
The boys were 23rd out of 34 teams.
All three of Sweet Home’s girls posted personal bests. Jessy Hart was 108th in a field of 197, running 22:29.60, followed by Summer Hicks (23:33.70) and Zoe James (23:47.80).
In the Junior/Senior JV race, Robert Watkins ran a PR of 22:30.0, as did Justin Kurtz, who finished in a personal-best 23:47.90.
In the Frosh/Soph Race, Connor Ford was 107th in a field of 296 runners, in a personal-best 21:04.60, followed by Gavin Walberg (109th in 21:05.40), Tristan Calkins (118th in 21:18.40), Eric Roddy in a personal-best 21.21.10, Trace Marler in a PR of 22:56.80, Corban Wright in 23:11.90 and Jaren Adams in a PR of 23:49.80.
They placed 19th out of 26 teams.
Sweet Home will next compete at the George Fox XC Classic at Willmette Mission State Park Saturday, Oct. 14.
The Huskies will wind up their pre-district season at the Country Fair Classic Oct. 18 at Elmira.
