The Husky softball team split a pair of games with Lebanon last week, losing 3-1 at Lebanon but winning 5-1 at home.
In sunny Thursday afternoon’s game at home, Lebanon jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning but were held there for the rest of the game. The Huskies scored three runs in the third inning and two in the fifth to win the game.
Heather Wall, 4-3, was the winning pitcher. She walked one and struck out three Lebanon batters, with only two of 23 batters marking hits.
The Huskies played a “very good defensive game,” Coach Rob Younger said. “Heather threw great. The team played great defense behind her, committing only one error in the first inning.”
The team turned in some clutch hits with girls in scoring position.
Teresa Lewis went 1-3, scoring two runs. Ashley Severns went 1-2, scoring a run and knocking two in. Amanda Burcham went 1-3 to bat in two runs. Wall went 1-2 for an RBI, and Kaci Trask went 1-2 to score a run.
In the March 20 game at Lebanon, Lebanon scored three runs in the first inning. The Huskies scored one in the sixth.
Severns went 1-3. Jessica Brocard went 1-2 with an RBI on a double. Crystal Fowler went 1-2.

The Huskies defeated Bend 13-0 and 12-2 in a doubleheader on March 17.
The first game, playing with a cold wind, the team collected eight hits on a rough pitcher.
“Our base running needs some fine tuning, but it’s early,” Coach Tom Wall said. “Summer Guthrie struck out five and only gave up two hits. The girls defense was flawless, committing no errors. They are really playing well, almost mid-season like. We need to work on hitting but it’s coming.”
Selena Culley went 1-2 with two walks. Jamie Miller went 1-2 with three walks. Ashley Horn and Mallory Carlson both went 2-3 with one walk. Jenna Anderson went 1-2.
“Coming off of game one, we had a small mental lapse, committing four errors in the first inning, allowing two unearned runs,” Coach Wall said. “We regrouped to put out the next 12 batters. Their new pitcher gave us fits to start, but in the fourth, we found our bats.”
Miller hit a triple that she worked for a homer. Susie Sieg and Horn both went 3-4.
“The girls continue to learn more each game,” Coach Wall said. “Base running gets better and so does the defense. Raelynn Wirth pitched a good game (three strikeouts and one walk).”
In the first two games of the season, the Huskies defeated Marist 20-0 and 11-5
