Sweet Home’s volleyball team beat Elmira on the road last week and lost another close match, this time to Junction City at home.
“It was a really good match, just another one of those heartbreakers,” Coach Mary Hutchins said. “It’s something we’re still working on, pushing through those final few points.”
Junction City 3, Sweet Home 1
The Huskies played with “good” energy, Hutchins said, but after Sweet Home opened the match with a 25-20 win in the first game, the Tigers roared back to take the next three 25-16, 26-24, 25-23.
“I was proud they stayed intense all the way through,” Hutchins said.
Lopez had 10 kills, and Tow had seven. Molly Fisher added four, along with four aces from the service line.
Lopez also had seven blocks, and Josie Knight added five.
Madisen Barringer “had great passing” throughout the match, Hutchins said.
Hitting errors caused problems for the Huskies.
“We had 19 in four games. That really hurt us,” Hutchins said

The Huskies handled the Falcons’ “scrappy” and “a little bit unorthodox” style of play in defeating their win-less hosts 27-25, 25-19, 25-15.
“They block a lot and they don’t have a lot of forward hitters,” Hutchins said. “You just have to be ready all the time.”
Ally Tow finished with 15 kills for Sweet Home, while Kayley Lopez had nine, along with nine blocks.
Sweet Home, 4-8 overall and 2-4 in league, starts the second half of Sky-Em play at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Sisters. The Huskies will then play in the Seaside Tournament Saturday.
“Our record could be 8-4,” Hutchins said. “We’ve lost five matches by two-point games.”
