What a smiley face the state puts on closing Hwy. 20 (Oct. 15). Nowhere did they acknowledge that Hwy. 20 is a “coast to coast” federal highway. They can say it’s just a winter inconvenenience but the reduced standard will affect the overall maintenance standard and have a negative impact on Sweet Home.
It’s more of the same for my home town. They shut down all logging, closed your mills; now they can’t even keep the roads open. Guess there’s not many log trucks any more but I see writing tickets for the long haulers who make the mistake of taking Hwy 20 pays the state well.
I would to have ask how much federal money the state receives to maintain Highway 20 and if it’s the amount asked for and if so where is it spent? Wonder if the feds even care – guess they’re going broke too.
