Jamboree produces memorable moment for bride-to-be

Chelsea Crouch of McMinnville thought she had a backstage pass to meet Sugarland on the opening night of the 2008 Oregon Jamboree.

Instead, she found herself on stage with KRKT-FM’s Scott Schuler and Angie Foster in front of the crowd waiting for Sugarland to come on stage.

Angie announced that Crouch had missed her meet-and-greet with Sugarland – then said she was kidding. She announced that Crouch was up there for a much more important reason.

That’s when Crouch’s longtime boyfriend, Jesse McShane, also of McMinnville, appeared – and proposed.

She accepted, in front of a delighted audience.

McShane, 25, said he and Crouch have been a couple for several years and both have attended the Jamboree with their families each of those years.

He said he’d bought the ring in March and started planning the ruse with the KRKT deejays in April.

“It was awesome,” he said.

Crouch, 21, said she and McShane had been talking about getting married, “but I had no idea” he had anything in mind when they came to the Jamboree.

“He got me good,” she said. “I had no clue.”

She said that the wedding would likely take place next summer. Both work for his family’s big box storage business.

Meanwhile, though the Sugarland tickets were bogus, she did get one other thrill Friday.

“I did get to meet Trent (Tomlinson) from American Idol,” she said.
