James Bennett

James Robert Bennett, 87, of Sweet Home died peacefully on Monday Dec. 21, in Albany.

He was born March 31, 1928 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to John and Ruth (Biery) Bennett. When he was 8 years old, his mother Ruth died. He was then raised by his father and stepmother, Alice Bennett. He grew up with six siblings Larraine, Sonny, Paul, Esther, Pete, and Grace.

Mr. Bennett was an Army veteran and served in the Korean War. Soon after the war he married Emma Silva and together they had four children.

Mr. Bennett worked for Willamette Industries in Sweet Home. He was well known for his sense of humor and boisterous laugh, his love of all animals, and the volunteer work he did in Sweet Home.

He is survived by his four children: Bill and daughter-in-law Pam, Gary and daughter-in-law Kari, Cindy and son-in-law Gary, and Greg and daughter-in-law Lisa; six grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.

Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his wife Emma.

A celebration of his life will be held in the spring of 2016.
