April 2, 1958 – June 27, 2021
It is with a heavy heart but a quiet notion of comfort that we announce the departure of our dear brother, James “Jimmy” Simkins, from our earthly world at the age of 63 in Lebanon.
Jimmy passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family and staff, on June 27, 2021. He was born in Roundup, Mont. to Robert J. and Bernice A. (Leninger) Simkins.
He moved to Lebanon in 1983, residing at Lemuel Group Homes, where he spent 38 happy years.
Of the years that he lived at Lemuel Group Home, many were spent working at Sunshine Industries in Sweet Home, participating in work activities and recreation, until he retired in 2018.
Jimmy lived a full and dignified life, and spent his time on earth living life to the absolute fullest, doing everything he set his mind to.
Among his favorite activities were; karaoke, coloring, watching WWE wrestling, greeting everyone, going on vacations (to Hawaii), and of course talking to pretty girls.
Jimmy is remembered by those who knew him as “the life of the party” who was compassionate and always willing to lend a helping hand.
At home, Jimmy’s alter ego was “Batman” and he truly acted the part of a superhero by helping out anyone who he felt was in need of his assistance.
In the words of Jimmy’s beloved John Cena, “You can’t see me.” and while we can no longer see Jimmy, we can take comfort in knowing that he is up there with all the prettiest girls, watching down on his loved ones from heaven with a smile on his face. He will be missed tremendously by his family, his staff at the group home, his housemates and his “buddies.”
Jimmy is survived by his siblings: Michael (Michelle), Jon, Valerie (Steve), Teri (Larry), Gail (Benjamin); many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and best friend Bill.
Memorial contributions can be made in his name to Oregon Special Olympics Linn County Chapter. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
