James Roger Rice, 94, of Sweet Home, died May 19, 2023.
He was born Jan. 2, 1929, in Holley to James Elbert and Berneta Velma (Banta) Rice.
Mr. Rice enjoyed fishing, hunting and, later, spending time at the Sweet Home Senior Center.
Mr. Rice married Joyce Mae Dahlenberg on Feb. 19, 1949. She died April 27, 1986. Together they had three children, daughter, Connie Irene Atkinson of Toledo, son, Steven Roger Rice of Albany, and daughter Cindy Marie Lill of Lebanon.
Mr. Rice later married Anna Elizabeth Stockemer, on Dec. 31, 1991; she died Dec. 15, 2018. Her surviving children are Daniel Carper of Sweet Home, Michael Carper of Ft. Benton, Mont., and Randy Carper of Sweet Home.
Mr. Rice is also survived by a brother, Donald Elbert Rice of Springfield; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Elbert Rice, on Oct. 3, 1993; mother Berneta Velma Rice on April 17, 1939; stepmother Alice Hunter Rice on Aug. 8, 2005, and twin brothers Charles Willard Rice on May 28, 1997 and Roy Winferd Rice on Feb. 28, 1992.
A private graveside service will be held at the IOOF Cemetery in Lebanon.
