Janice Marchant Stewart

Janice Stewart

Oct. 24, 1934 – Feb. 7, 2025

Janice Marchant Stewart died Feb. 7, 2025, a few months after her 90th birthday.

She was born Oct. 24, 1934 in Lovell, Wyo., to Ernest Wright Marchant and Helen (Carleton) Marchant Snow.

She attended public schools in Wyoming, California and Utah, and graduated in 1952  from Springville High School in Springville, Utah. She attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she met her eternal cowboy sweetheart, Solomon Lan Stewart.

They were married in the LDS Mesa Arizona Temple on Jan. 16, 1953, and went on to raise a family of five children.

In addition to taking wonderful care of her family, Janice loved raising and training horses, teaching music (piano, organ and singing), sewing and designing clothes, the French language, and her beloved home state of Wyoming.

She was a horse owner from the age of 15 until her last one died when she was 88 years old. She will always be remembered as a classy, beautiful, spectacularly fashionable, and very talented woman.

She was healthy in mind and body until her last day. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a daughter and several half-siblings.

Janice is survived by four children: Lan M. (Janice) Stewart of Reno, Texas; Sylvia Christiansen of Aztec, New Mexico; Bret (Debra) Stewart of Lebanon;  and Jay (Nancy) Stewart of Lebanon. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, one (almost two) great-great grandchildren, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service was held Feb. 15 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lebanon. A private family burial took place at Lewis Cemetery.
