Janice Sims

Sept. 22, 1938 – March 15, 2008

Janice Irene Calvert Sims, 69, of Eugene, died of heart disease on March 15, 2008.

She was born Sept. 22, 1938 in Sweet Home to Maymon (Tex) and Doris Waddle Calvert. She graduated from Sweet Home Union High School in 1956 and managed foster care homes in the Eugene area for 25 years.

She is survived by her mother, Doris Calvert of Eugene; a son, David Taylor of Springfield; daughter, Bobbi Galati of Roseburg; two sisters, Sandie Gerber of Eugene and Cheri Harris of Lake Oswego; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, “Tex” Calvert, and a grandson, Joseph Galati.

A memorial service was held March 20 at the Beacon House in Junction City. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Salvation Army.

Juanita Davis

June 10, 1930 – March 23, 2008

Juanita Frances Davis, 77, died on Easter morning, March 23, 2008, surrounded by her family in Lebanon.

She was born June 10, 1930 to Peter Paul Weidman and Lona Mae Hewitt in Yamhill. As a child, her family moved to Vernonia, where she lived until 1957 and met her future husband, James Quentin Davis. They were married Sept. 4, 1948 in Vernonia.

The Davises had four children. The family moved from Vernonia to Sweet Home before ultimately settling in Lebanon in 1963.

Mrs. Davis’ interests included sewing, gardening, crafts, friends, and her family. As an adult, she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served for many years as a nursery leader.

She is survived by her husband, James; brothers, Loren Weidman, Paul Weidman and Robert Weidman; children Daniel Paul Davis and his wife Karen, James Alton Davis and his wife Mary Alice, Pamela Mae Lacy and her husband Jack, and Donald Allen Davis and his wife Rebecca; 29 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Vona Harvey.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, in the Lebanon building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
