Jann Horner is new LBCC board chair

Linn-Benton Community College’s Board of Education elected new officers for the 2002-2003 year at its annual organizational meeting held July 17, at LBCC.

Janice Horner, representative for south and east Linn County (zone 1), replaces Richard Wendland a Philomath resident and Rural Benton County (zone 5) representative as the Board’s new chair.

Horner has been on the LBCC Board since 1998. Joseph Novak was elected vice chair.

“It’s exciting to be associated with the community college system that serves our communities and populace in the lifelong adventurous journey of learning,” Horner said.

She began her public accounting career in 1978 as a part-time staff accountant. Horner passed her CPA exam in 1987 and became a partner in the Lebanon firm of Sundberg, Rauch, Benneth and Horner in 1994.

Novak joined the board in 1981. He is a representative for north and west Linn County (zone 2-3). Novak and his wife are owners of Novak’s Hungarian Restaurant in Albany.

After studying electro-mechanical technology in Hungary, he worked as a senior research and development analyst on North American Rockwell Corporation’s Apollo Command Module project and as a lead quality assurance specialist technician with Lockheed and Arc corporations.

The LBCC Board of Education governs Linn-Benton Community College. Linn and Benton county residents elect the seven members to serve four-year terms.

The other five board members are Richard Wendland, Hal Brayton, Dr. Thomas Wogaman, Marshall Johnson, and Barbara Boudreaux.
