Jayce Miller is the newest Husky to complete a college signing after committing to Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC). Miller’s signing marks the fourth signing this year for the Sweet Home wrestling program, with one more to come.

Originally when Miller joined wrestling at a young age, he never knew he would go on to compete at the collegiate level.

“When I started wrestling it was mostly because my friends got me into it, but I found that I had a natural talent for wrestling,” Miller said. “It wasn’t until my senior year that I decided to pursue wrestling at the collegiate level.”

Miller rejoined the wrestling team freshman year; however, his freshman year was during the COVID pandemic, but this didn’t stop Miller from being a three-time state championship placer with multiple tournament placings.

“My freshman year was really my first full year of wrestling, so I guess at that point no one really expected me to do what I did,” Miller said.

“To come back out like that and to challenge yourself, that was a real plus for us and what he brought to our program over the last four years,” head coach Steve Thorpe explained. “He’s an incredible leader. [He] absolutely loves to take charge and have a voice by example.”

Miller was seen with ear-to-ear smiles following his signing, truly showing the excitement he was feeling.

“I really like the campus and the coaches, and it’s not too far from home, so I’m expecting a pretty good experience,” Miller mentioned.

He plans to wrestle while he gets a degree in forest management. His future career goals are currently undetermined.

“I think he’s going to a great school and a really good fit for him at SWOCC,” Thorpe said. “Before him, we have sent several wrestlers there. I like what that school has to offer. I’m really excited for him and really proud of him.”
