Jefferson 11

Sweet Home 10

Tied at the bottom of the seventh inning, Jefferson slipped a run in to defeat the summer high school baseball team 11-10 at Jefferson.

“We hit the ball fairly well today,” Coach Dan Tow said. “But our pitching and defense were ugly. We gave them quite a few runs, and on top of that we got some tough breaks in the game.

“Nevertheless, we really have nobody to blame but ourselves. We scored 10 runs, and that should have been plenty.

“Tomas Rosa really hit the ball well today with a home run and a triple. Carey Hintze is also swinging a hot bat.”

The Huskies led 3-2 after the first inning, but Jefferson scored two runs in the second and fourth to go ahead 8-3. The Huskies put together four runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth to tie the score at 10-10.

Rosa went 2-4 with a home run, triple, four RBIs and three runs. Hintze went 3-4 with a triple, three RBIs and three runs. Brent Smith went 2-2.

Starting pitcher was Brent Smith. Losing pitcher was Chris Phillips, who threw in relief.
