Jessie LaVelle (Crane) Blevins, 91, of Sweet Home died on May 24, 2006.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1914 to Arthur Leslie and Minnie Ellen Waters in Waterloo, one of 10 children.
She married Claude C. Crane in 1931, and he preceded her in death in 1969. She then married Singleton G. Edwards. They were married 21 years until his death. Later, she married Leo Blevins in Sweet Home.
She lived her entire adult life in the Sweet Home area.
Mrs. Blevins was an excellent student, skipping several grades.
After the death of her first husband, she uccessfully invested in real estate. She loved to buy and restore property.
She was enjoyed singing, playing the piano, playing the accordion and playing the mandolin. She sang and played for church, revivals and the radio. She had a clear soprano voice that permitted her to sing for nearly 80 years.
She enjoyed entertaining guests from the around the nation in her home. She kept traveling missionaries and evangelists for days and weeks.
She cut hair for 50 years, always as a free service to those who did not have money to pay for a haircut and for some who were wealthy and wanted her skill.
She is survived by two sisters, Esther Pierce and Delores Hammet, both of Salem; sons, Alan C. Crane of Decatur, Texas, David L. Crane of Ellensburg, Wash., and Charles A. Crane of Boise, Idaho; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. on June 13 at Gilliland Cemetery. Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
