Jim E. Hopper Sr., 72, of Sweet Home, died April 27, 2009.
He was born May 21, 1936 in Eugene to Vernon William and Rosetta E. (Rhodes) Hopper. He was raised in Eugene. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1968 and traveled the world with the Navy, reaching the rank of QM2E5, and he received five Service Medals.
Mr. Hopper moved to Sweet Home in 1969, working as a carpenter for many years. He loved hunting, fishing and giving people a hard time. His two favorite things were his family and pets.
He is survived by his wife Cleo of Sweet Home; children Cheri (Hopper) Thornbrough of Sweet Home, Jeanette (Gali) Settles of Sweet Home, Teresa (Hopper) Swanson of Sweet Home, Jim Hopper Jr. of Hillsboro and Troy Hopper of Sweet Home; brother Harold “Hal” Hopper of Eugene; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Earl Lloyd; brother Vernon “Bud” Hopper; sister Donna (Hopper) Hutton; and two grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Safehaven Humane Society, 33071 Hwy. 34, Albany, Oregon
Viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, at Victory Faith Fellowship.
