Joe R. Schoonover, 72, of Sweet Home died May 2, 2014.
He was born Oct. 14, 1941 in Ottowa, Kan. to Gordon Sr. and Lorain Maine (Jones) Schoonover.
He served in the United States Navy during Vietnam and was honorably discharged Nov. 13, 1964.
Mr. Schoonover lived in Kansas, Washington and California before moving to Sweet Home in 1990.
He retired from Georgia Pacific in Halsey in February 2007.
Mr. Schoonover enjoyed woodworking and horseback riding. He loved to work on the ranch. He liked the TV shows “Crimestoppers” and “Game of Thrones.”
In his younger years he loved having Tuesday night poker games, participated in various bowling leagues and has bowled a perfect game. He loved country music and dancing the jitterbug with his wife.
Mr. Schoonover is survived by his wife, Teresa Schoonover of Sweet Home; son: Joe R. Schoonover Jr. of Texas, and Timothy Schoonover of Palm Springs, Calif.; daughter Shelene Nester of Modesto, Calif.; step-son Terry J. Gowen of Sweet Home; step-daughter Janel Phillips of Phoenix; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, sister and step-sister.
