John Brennan

John P. Brennan, 80, of Sweet Home died Oct. 20, 2011.
He was born June 24, 1931 in Lyons, Ill. to John Herbert and Emma (Jenson) Brennan, the 13th of 13 brothers and sisters.
He was a “gunny sergeant” in the Marine Corps, serving from 1948 to 1978 during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
Mr. Brennan lived in many places in United States and Guam. He moved to Rogue River in 2003 and then to Sweet Home in 2004. He was a Lifetime Marine. He was also known as “Gunny” or “Pops” from working at the liquor store in town.
He loved games. Puzzles, Yahtzee and Poker were his favorites.
Mr. Brennan is survived by two daughters, Lucia “Lu” Hogan and Phyllis S. Strehlow, both of Sweet Home; four siblings, Herb, Ruth, Margorie and Violet, all of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, all of California.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at The VFW Hall in Sweet Home.
Memorial contributions can be made in his name to cancer or diabetes research.
