John Gaskey

John Ed Gaskey, 78, of Sweet Home, died April 13, 2023.

He was born April 27, 1944, in Wright City, Okla., to Delbert Jesse and Frances (Parker) Gaskey.

His family came to Sweet Home in 1948.

Mr. Gaskey graduated from Sweet Home High School, where he excelled in sports, especially wrestling, placing third in state as a freshman and winning state championships as a sophomore and a senior.

He lived in Oregon until 1980, when he moved to California until 1993. He moved to Oregon and lived in Redmond, Ontario and Prineville before returning to Sweet Home in May 2022 to be close to family after his wife, Lezlie, passed away.

Mr. Gaskey worked for Henkels as a journeyman lineman and for McCoy as a superintendent, running crews on jobs all over California. He loved fishing and camping, especially at the Snake River with his cousins.

Mr. Gaskey is survived by his daughters, Justine L. Coordt of Raymond, Wash., and Sarah J. Afana of New York, N.Y.; sisters Charlene and brother-in-law Rich Adams, and Brenda and brother-in-law Ervin Dirks, all of Sweet Home; and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Oregon and Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lezlie in 2022; father Delbert Gaskey in 2005; and mother Frances Hughes in 2020.

Viewing will be at noon Friday, April 21, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.

A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Final burial will take place in Lehi, Utah.
