John Wesley Welty, 86, of Sweet Home, died June 24, 2023.
He was born June 21, 1937, in Portland to Harvey A. and Eva M. (Rowley) Welty.
Mr. Welty served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1963. He lived in various places, including Florence and Florida and then moved back to Oregon and settled in Sweet Home in 1980. He was in the logging industry, was a draftsman, then became a log truck owner and operator in Sweet Home.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting; he was very handy and was a “John” of all trades.
Mr. Welty is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeannette “Eddi” of Sweet Home; daughter Vicki and son-in-law Michael Sele of Sweet Home; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jonna Jobbitt (2016); and brother Ivan Welty.
A celebration of life potluck with military honors will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at his home in Sweet Home.
