Freshman Olivia Johnson ran a personal-best 19:25.84, good for 66th place in a field of 223 runners Saturday to finish secondfor Corban University at the 37th annual Charles Bowles Invitational at Bush Pasture Park.
Senior Courtney Welling of Springfield (60th, 19:17.98) led Corban’s women’s cross country team to a 12th place finish Saturday (301 points) en route to finishing behind fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference members Northwest Christian (second – 82 points), Concordia (fourth – 129), Southern Oregon (sixth – 205), Northwest (ninth – 243), and Eastern Oregon (11th – 261). The Warriors finished ahead of Warner Pacific, which was 19th.

Willamette University’s football team, for which Sweet Home alumnus Zane Wise is an offensive lineman, lost its Northwest Conference opener Saturday to Linfield, 20-10, in front of a sellout crowd at McCulloch Stadium in Salem.
Linfield, ranked sixth in NCAA Div. III, improved to 3-0 on the season. Willamette fell to 1-3 overall, with all three losses to nationally ranked teams.
