Jon Lee Tyler

July 12, 1936 – April 17, 2019

Jon Lee Tyler, a longtime Sweet Home resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at the age of 82 in Eugene.

He was the loving husband of Sharon, proud father to three sons and their loved ones, Jon, his wife Frances, Dave, his love Helen, Tim, his sweetheart Anne, his cherished granddaughter Jessica, four adorable great-grandchildren and his brothers Tom and Basil.

Lee was born on July 12, 1936, in Astoria to Jon and Erma Tyler.

In 1954, Lee graduated from Knappa-Svensen High School, where he excelled in academics and baseball, football and basketball.

Lee loved to hunt and fish often with his brothers-in-law and sons. He hand-built a dory following the Finnish tradition handed down by his grandpa. There were many enjoyable fishing trips in Pacific City.

One of Lee’s favorite things was travelling with his family on ski trips, as he loved the Cascades, Rockies, Grand Tetons and Wasatch Mountains.

Lee’s prowess and impeccable reputation earned him high- ranking positions in the wood products industry.

Lee later retired from the timber industry and began his second career growing grapes for Oregon wineries and even bottled some of his own award-winning wine under the Holly Blue Label. In his retirement, Lee enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, and playing golf in the Palm Springs area.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, in Junction City, on Sunday, May 5, at 3 p.m.
