Joyce Birdsall

April 23, 1929 – Nov. 3, 2007

Joyce Marion Birdsall, 78, of Corvallis died Nov. 3, 2007 at her home, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with multiple myeloma cancer.

She was born April 23, 1929 in LaGrande to Oscar and Stella (Patterson) Andrews and lived with her parents in Silver Lake from 1935 until they moved to Sweet Home in 1938. She attended Sweet Home High School and was very active in student government and cheerleading. She graduated in 1947. She married her high school sweetheart, William Birdsall, in 1947. They moved to Corvallis in 1960 for five years until they moved to Lebanon from 1965 to 1978. They spent time in Ivory Coast, Africa where they helped start a sawmill.

They also lived in Sun City West, Ariz., and Mission Viejo, Calif. They moved back to Oregon in 2002, living in Sweet Home again until 2006, at which time they moved to Corvallis.

The Birdsalls owned Northwest Moulding and several local area Diet Centers. Mrs. Birdsall also worked as a secretary for Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) in California.

She enjoyed decorating, reading, crafts, painting and drawing. She was an amazing cook and entertainer. Above all, she was a loving wife and mother.

Mrs. Birdsall is survived by her husband, William Birdsall; daughters, Connie and her husband Ron, Kathy and her husband Richard, Marilyn, and Janet and her husband Jack; sister-in-law Mollie Andrews; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brother, Francis; and grandson Steven (2006).

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Birdsall’s memory may be made to Benton County Hospice, 2350 NW Professional Drive, Corvallis, Oregon 97330.

Viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will follow at noon at the Sweet Home Evangelical Church, 1347 Long St. A lunch will be served following the service.

A graveside service for those wishing to attend will be held following lunch at Gilliland Cemetery.

Ivan Brown

May 23, 1919 – Nov. 4, 2007

Ivan E. Brown, 88, of Sweet Home, died Nov. 4, 2007.

He was born May 23, 1919 in Hazelton, Idaho to John Allen and Edith Belle (Cleveland) Brown.

He served in the South Pacific as a Navy Seabee. He married Lucile Avis Walworth.

Ivan is survived by his wife Lucile; son, Ivan Brown Jr. of California; sister, Elizabeth Gilmore of Eugene; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cean Boeger and eight brothers and sisters.

Private services were held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
