Julia ‘Judy’ Sloan

Sept. 8, 1918-Sept. 25, 2006

Julia “Judy” Elizabeth Sloan, 88, of Sweet Home, died Sept. 25, 2006 at Twin Oaks Nursing Care Center.

She was born Sept. 8, 1918 in Durham, Kan., to Ben and Anna Frick. She graduated from Durham High School, attended McPherson College two years, then began her teaching career in a one-room country school.

She later finished her master’s degree in education from Western Illinois University.

She began working at the Boeing Aircraft Co. in Wichita, Kan., where she met her future husband, Virgil Sloan. After their marriage they moved to Oklahoma, later to Idaho, and then to Wyoming, where Mrs. Sloan resumed her teaching career, which continued for 44 years.

They moved to Junction City and then to their last home, in Vancouver, Wash., in 1981.

Mrs. Sloan suffered a stroke June 19, 2005 and moved to Wiley Creek Assisted Living Facility in Sweet Home, near her sister and brother-in-law.

She is survived by her sister, Delphia Hein, and brother-in-law, Lloyd Hein, of Sweet Home; step-daughter-in-law, Sue; two step-grandsons; nieces, Janet Bielefeld and Pamela Henderson; and nephews, Galen Frick, Curtis Frick and Michael Hein

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, in 1993; her step-son, Gene; and her brother, Melvin.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver. Wash.
