Sweet Home 9
Molalla 7
The junior varsity baseball team defeated Molalla 9-7 at home on May 7.
“Cody Miller was the dominant player on the field today,” Coach Jon Cohrs said. “He was outstanding in every phase of the game, and led us to the win. Kye Frick and Tomas Rosa also had very good days, especially at the plate.
“We outplayed Molalla the whole way, but, to their credit, they managed to keep it a close game. We gave up too many unearned runs to really ever put them away. All in all, this was a quality team win. We were very good on the bases, making some good decisions and taking advantage of opportunities. We had 14 stolen bases as a team, and we were able to have runners in scoring position every inning. That gave lots of guys chances to drive in runs, and we came through.
On the mound, Miller had his third straight quality start. He got ahead in the count and made Molalla hitters hit tough pitches. They only made good contact a few times. Most of their hits were soft liners or weak ground balls that found their way through the infield, the same way they did last time we faced Molalla. This win evened the score with Molalla and gives us good momentum to finish the season.”
