They’ve blown away their competition for two seasons.
The Husky junior varsity grid squad swept their way to a 9-0 record this season, coming off an undefeated season as freshmen.
Coach David Younger said the squad is easy to coach because the players are so dedicated.
“They come to practice willing to learn,” Coach Younger said. “They learned a lot working out with our varsity squad and they’ve played a long time together.”
Coach Younger said the squad overpowered their competition this season to the point that by halftime, his game plan had to change.
“The first half, we’d run our full package of runs and passing,” Coach Younger said. “The second half, we ran plays so that we wouldn’t run the score up. Still, there were some ugly scores. There just wasn’t a drop off in talent from our first to third string guys. There were a lot of second team guys who would be first team at other schools.”
Offensively, quarterback Donny Cliver led the charge.
“This was Donny’s first year at quarterback. The guys were a little hesitant about that the first game but after that, they knew he had the stuff to do the job,” Coach Younger said.
Tyler Emmert played four positions for Coach Younger including quarterback, tight end and H-back. He also played corner on defense.
“Our defensive line dominated people,” Coach Younger said. “They made it easy for our linebackers and secondary to do their jobs.”
The JV Huskies outscored opponents 405 to 90 points.
Running the football were Brandon Miner, Ricky Howe and Tim Matuszak who all saw varsity playing time.
“I’m very impressed with this team’s attitude both on and off the field,” Coach Younger said. “There were no discipline probmes and we really didn’t have to do much to fire them up. They are so disciplined. They came to play every game.”
Coach Younger was joined by assistant coach Tim O’Donald and volunteer coaches Justin Seiber and Kenny Kittson.
Coach Younger said he believes this is the first time a Husky JV squad has compiled an undefeated season record.
