Katherine Smith, 88, died in Salt Lake City on Dec. 28, 2010 as a result of Parkinson’s disease.
She was born March 12, 1922, in Rapid City, S.D., to Emma and William Stanton. She married LeRoy Smith and together they had six children.
The family lived in Central Oregon, including the Sweet Home area, for about 20 years. She moved to Utah and earned her associate’s degree at Utah Valley State University and worked there until retirement. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker who was very nurturing and devoted.
She is survived by her children, Sharyn Smith, Sandra and son-in-law Victor Freestone, Suzan Van Uitert, Charles and daughter-in-law Edi Sue Smith, Maurice and daughter-in-law Brenda Smith, Philip and daughter-in-law Jennifer Smith; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four siblings, son-in-law Gordon and a grandson, Brent Freestone.
Funeral services were held Jan. 3 at the Sweet Home Latter-Day Saints Chapel, with interment at Gilliland Cemetery.
