Kayley Lopez, Ally Tow named volleyball MVPs

Sophomores Kayley Lopez and Ally Tow were named the Huskies’ Most Outstanding Players in volleyball during the team’s annual awards dessert held on Nov. 10 in the high school cafeteria.

Junior Madi Barringer and senior Josie Knight received the “Unsung Hero” award from Coach Mary Hutchins.

The Unsung Hero is the equivalent of the Coach’s Award, given to a player who may not see much recognition but is in the trenches doing everything she needs to do – a player highly appreciated by the coaches, Hutchins said,

Senior Molly Fisher was named the team’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Senior Rebecca Wooley was named Most Inspirational Player.

The team as a whole finished second academically statewide among 4A schools with a 3.7 overall GPA, behind South Umpqua, which had a combined GPA of 3.71. Sweet Home edged out Gladstone, 3.68.

First-year lettermen included junior Gracie Olson and seniors Brittany Nicholson, Moriah Gingerich and Kelsie Olhausen.

Receiving their second letters in volleyball were Rebecca Wooley and Lola Wingo and sophomores Ally Tow and Kayley Lopez.

Earning their third letters were junior Madi Barringer and senior Molly Fisher.

Receiving certificates for playing on JV 2 were sophomores Kylee Ceccato and Hailey Silver and freshmen Marissa Kurtz, Kayla Miller, Sam Coats, Anna Coleman, Alana Silver, Allison Brown, Aliya Boss, Kate Hawken and Kennedi Waldrop.

Receiving certificates for playing on JV1 were juniors Tasha Rasmussen and Alana Van Eck; sophomores Caylie Trewin, Brianna Hoffman, Rose Wingo, Mariah Thayer, Kylie Armstrong, Samantha Hutchins, Kelika Aiona and McKenna Melbye; and freshman Sunhee Bitter.

The team also presented a certificate to Kiana Burks, who was the team manager.
